CHESTER-LE-STREET METHODIST CHURCH. The 10th East Durham Company are attached to the Methodist Church. This is located in the centre of town, opposite the market place. It was built in 1903, and at one time was one of three Methodist Chapels in the town. They were united as one congregation in 1983, the then Central Methodist Chapel being the chosen site for the church, primarily due to its location. It is unusual in that this Church has the largest membership of the Circuit, with over 50% of the Circuit membership being at Chester-le-Street. In addition to the BB there is also a Girls' Brigade Company, as well as Girl Guides and Brownies. There is also a Youth Forum, catering for those for whom the Uniform organisations do not appeal. This is open for all. The Church has a strong musical tradition, with several organists, a Choir (who perform regular concerts both at Chester-le-Street and elsewhere), Agape (a group of ladies who sing and give concerts, again all over the North East) and a youth orchestra (who regularly take part in Church Parade and Christmas Services.) A new addition to Church worship has been the start of a contempory service. This uses the talents of the young people of the Church and gives them an opportunity to express their beliefs in God and Jesus in their way and language. If you would like to try something new and different, come along. |
